New AKG K512 & K514 Headphones

AKG is going to release earlier this month a couple of new headphones, the K512 ($60) and K514 ($80). The first one is based on a sealed design while the K514 model employs a semi-open design.

Specifications (K512):
► Frequency response: 18Hz ~ 20kHz
► Nominal impedance: 32Ω
► Sensitivity: 97dB/mW
► Power handling: 200mW

Specifications (K514):
► Frequency response: 18Hz ~ 22kHz
► Nominal impedance: 32Ω
► Sensitivity: 100dB/mW
► Power handling: 200mW

Both headphones feature adjustable headbands, imitation leather earpads, a 2.5m OFC cable and come with a 3.5mm to 6.3mm adapter. Each model has its own color, Pearl Gray for the K512 and Tobacco for the K514.

Thanks to the Hifi Guy for the briefing. Please note that the sensitivity is incorrect. The correct values are:

K512: 115db/mW
K514: 112db/mW

This is very important since the headphones sound powerfull. I tried both but liked more the K514 due to the natural and undistorted sound. The K512 is even more powerfull but the bass is unnaturally deep.

Hello gokica, it's weird I got the sensitivity values from Harman Japan, maybe they use slightly different drivers for the rest of the world.

In general in a product lineup, the more expensive, the better laughing

If U own one and have the opportunity cut slightly around 300-500 Hz, it's little "muddy" around there if i'm right. It seemed to sound more clear.

Sry, I meant 514. I do not have any experience on 512.

hello,
i bought the 512 this morning.
And well, what can i tell you...:)
the last time I heard a sound like this (especially the low frequencies) is with the Harmann Kardon audio system of my friends mercedes c-class! the 512 is a bit big but it's the price to pay to have a quasi-isolation of exterior's sounds. Sooner i walked in one of the biggest avenue in paris, and i can tell you that i didn't hear nothing!
I think AKG's becoming my favourite audio brand ^^
bye

this model is new in Russia. I've got Senn HD212 pro. i'm quite satisfied with the sound, but need new headphones, as the silver color of 212s peels off after 1 year of almost everyday use.
Can someone say objectively, wheather the 514s sound better?

I've bought one. I think K514 is better than the previous K66, especially the bass . I compared it with my old Senn PX200(I don't have any other headphone), they are definitely on the different level.

PS: I also tried AKG K530, K514 sound much better if the headphone is supposed to be used on portable player.
